Switchover method

Hi Dave

I understand that the switchover cannot happen till the old Tivo service ends, so 1st June it is. I wonder if you could clarify a couple of things for a non-techie.

1. Can you give some idea of what the switchover would entail; I think I read somewhere that it could be as easy as changing the phone number in the system menu.

2. How will we find out the switchover details on 1st June: obviously the old Tivo service will not be sending out a message lol. Will it be on this forum somewhere?

Thanks

Andrew

(Had my Tivo since they first came out, and you replaced the HDD when the original expired.)

I am in the "interesting" position of being out of the country on switchover day so not sure what I should be doing.
Will it be possible to switch a few days early so I can get Tivo working off the new EPG before I go away?

Well, the alpha testing phase is currently in process but mainly for those with network equipped tivo's.
The dialup option is still under development, there are a few people working on different options, as soon as we know more, we will make available the information.

If your are network based, you could try the LAN connection now via the Alpha Testing, but people relying on their live tivo's may prefer to stick with the official guide data until its run out.
(at least that way, our system is bound to be better than the alternative of no data at all)
:)

Well, as I am networked I'd be happy to add my experiences to the LAN alpha testing

But HOW???

Are there some instructions somewhere that I have missed??

Thanks

Phil G

PS It seems I don't have security clearance to read the HOWTO instructions :(

Dave Healey posted instructions a while back on what to do if you wanted to get involved in the alpha testing phase (see Project Requests: http://www.tivoland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=453).
If you follow those instructions you'll get access to the Installation & Configuration area which contains further instructions.

Thanks for that - looks like I am better waiting for beta testing to start - I only have one (aka primary) Tivo, and swmbo would be MOST upset if I messed it up :)

Same here :D
I am networked but Tivo has an important job to do so my best bet is to join the beta testing.

Thanks for that, I only have the one Tivo and it is the most useable recorder I have ever owned so I am reluctant to lose its functionality because of a devious deal between VM & Tivo. I suppose naivety led me think that lifetime meant my lifetime and not some other definition but it was good value looking back on it. I will be happy to assist in any way I can though
